Heating grants in Northern Ireland: your own schemes

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme and ECO4 do not cover Northern Ireland, so the Great Britain grants you read about elsewhere do not apply. Northern Ireland runs its own schemes instead: the Affordable Warmth Scheme, the Boiler Replacement Scheme, and NISEP support through your energy supplier.
Northern Ireland is the exception. The headline UK schemes stop at the Irish Sea, so this page steers you to the NI-specific help rather than collecting your details for grants we cannot arrange there.
The schemes at a glance
| Scheme | What it pays | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Affordable Warmth Scheme | Funded energy efficiency improvements | Low-income households, via the Housing Executive and councils. |
| Boiler Replacement Scheme | A grant towards replacing an old, inefficient boiler | Owner-occupiers below an income threshold, with an older boiler. |
| NISEP | Support delivered through energy suppliers | Varies by supplier and measure. |

Why the UK schemes do not apply here
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales, and the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) covers Great Britain. Neither extends to Northern Ireland, which sets its own energy policy. So any site offering you the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme in Northern Ireland is mistaken.
What is available instead
The Affordable Warmth Scheme, run through the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and local councils, funds energy efficiency improvements for lower-income households. The Boiler Replacement Scheme offers a grant towards swapping an old, inefficient boiler for a modern condensing one, subject to an income threshold. NISEP support is delivered through the energy suppliers. Amounts and rules change, so confirm the current position with the Housing Executive or your council.
Where in Northern Ireland this applies
The Northern Ireland schemes are administered across all six counties:
Belfast, Derry and Londonderry, County Antrim, County Down, County Armagh, County Tyrone, County Fermanagh, and everywhere in between.
