We tell you when you don't qualify

This market is full of ads promising a free boiler to anyone with a pulse. The truth is narrower. ECO4 fully funds work only for households on qualifying benefits. If that is not you, we say so on the result screen instead of selling your number anyway.

If you are not on any qualifying benefits, ECO4 probably is not your route, but the Boiler Upgrade Scheme has no income test at all. That single fact surprises most people who visit this site.

We are an independent company, not a government body. When we introduce you to an installer, we may receive a fee, and you will always know that before you hand over a single detail.

Your questions, answered

How much is the boiler upgrade scheme grant in 2026?
£7,500 towards an air source or ground source heat pump in England and Wales. Homes currently heated by oil or LPG get £9,000 from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. Biomass boilers get £5,000 and air-to-air heat pumps or heat batteries get £2,500. There is no income test.
Can I get a heat pump grant if I'm not on benefits?
Yes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme has no income or benefits test at all. Any owner-occupier in England or Wales can get £7,500 off a heat pump. Benefits only matter for ECO4, which can fully fund the work for qualifying households.
Are free boiler grants real or a scam?
The schemes are real and government-backed, but not everyone qualifies. ECO4 can fully fund a boiler or heat pump if someone in your household receives a qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit or Pension Credit. Plenty of ads overpromise, which is why we tell you plainly when you do not qualify.
Do I need insulation before getting the boiler upgrade scheme?
No. The insulation requirement was scrapped in April 2026. A lot of older articles still say you need loft or cavity wall insulation first, and they are out of date.
Who actually applies for the grant?
For the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, your MCS-certified installer applies for the voucher and takes the money off your quote. For ECO4, a TrustMark-registered installer or your energy supplier handles it. You never fill in a government application yourself.
Is this site part of the government?
No. We are an independent service, not affiliated with or endorsed by the UK Government or Ofgem. We connect homeowners with MCS-certified and TrustMark-registered installers and may receive a fee when we make an introduction. The grants themselves come from government schemes.
